Nursery Update!

Now that my daughter is three and a half months old, her nursery has finally come together!  In a previous post I mentioned that we decided to go with a Star Wars theme, but I wanted it to be sort of subtle so that as she ages the room can grow with her.

Many people have commented on us putting blue walls for a girl’s room, but I love the way these turned out!  I wanted a kind of atmosphere for a deep space look and it really came out well.  I’ll post later about how the ombre wall was achieved, but be prepared for a long project if you decide to do one (especially if you are 30 weeks pregnant with HG).

gem1Once the wall color was chosen yellow accents were a no brainer (I mean have you seen the Star Wars logo?).  I chose a dark grey and white for the pricey pieces that I knew would be sticking around for awhile like the glider, rug, crib, and dresser.  This way I can be sure that they will still go with whatever I need them to once they move out of this room.

gem4The light sabers were one of the more obvious Star Wars references along with the mobile and piggy bank.  I already had three picture frames with watercolor type paintings of an X-Wing, TIE Interceptor, and the Millennium Falcon but I still haven’t decided on a permanent home for them as I don’t want to put holes in my nice walls before I’m sure.

gem5We took the doors off of the closet because they were unpainted wood and on very loud sliders, so we opted for open shelving.  She already has so many clothes, which are organized by age and type.  There is also storage space for diapers, wipes, and random other goodies.  The storage cubbies next to the closet have space for books and toys which will probably need expanding later since its already full!

The mobile is one of my favorite things about the room, and it is Gem’s favorite too!  We got a bunch of these Itty Bitty plushies to fill up the mobile.  Featured are Yoda, Leia, R2D2, Chewbacca, and a Jawa.  The Jawa is Gem’s favorite because we always shake that one and shout “utinni!”

gem8We also have a bassinet that my grandfather built for my brother and me, but it wasn’t quite up to current standards (even though I’m sure it would have been safe, I just can’t stand the thought of something happening when we could prevent it).  So instead of using it as a bassinet, we are using it as a stuffed animal pen, and she already has so many!

How long did it take you to get your nursery finished?  Do you have an heirloom piece that you decided to use differently than intended?

The blue for a girl is different and I love different! I have so many plans for nurseries that I don’t know if I’ll be able to decide on one theme. The star wars one came out adorable! Good job, mama!
